PRE-SELECTED CANDIDATE

Within this PhD project topic, you will explore advanced diamond materials grown by microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition. The research will focus on tailoring diamond’s structure and properties through controlled plasma synthesis and the introduction of optical centers such as SiV or NV defects. These color centers provide unique optical and quantum functionalities, making diamond an exceptional platform for photonic, environmental, and biomedical technologies.

Students will study the relationships between synthesis parameters, crystal quality, and optical performance, complemented by surface functionalization to enable sensing and biocompatible applications. The project combines plasma physics, materials science, and optical spectroscopy, offering both experimental and theoretical challenges. Collaboration with leading research institutes will provide access to state-of-the-art plasma systems and characterization tools, preparing candidates for careers in quantum materials, nanotechnology, and applied photonics.
