The Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (FNSPE) at the Czech Technical University in Prague offers a specialized course providing a comprehensive introduction to Korean pressurized water reactors (PWRs), with a particular focus on the Advanced Power Reactor (APR-type). The lectures will be delivered by Prof. Hyoung Kyu Cho and are intended for students and professionals interested in modern nuclear power plant design, operation, and safety.
Topics include the reactor coolant system, steam and power conversion system, auxiliary systems, and engineered safety features. Operational procedures (startup, normal operation, shutdown) are presented alongside thermohydraulic phenomena during transients and accidents, the functions of safety systems, and representative safety analysis results. Prior exposure to introductory nuclear engineering, thermodynamics, and heat transfer is recommended but not required.
Lessons take place every Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00 at the FNSPE premises in Prague (V Holešovičkách 2, Prague 8) from 19 February to 15 May 2026. Participation is free of charge, and attendees will receive a certificate of completion.
