From 7 to 9 July 2026, the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (FNSPE) at CTU hosted the master's thesis defenses of students enrolled in the international Fusion-EP master's programme. This major event returned to Prague for the first time in seven years.
Fusion-EP is the world's only international master's programme dedicated to high-temperature plasma physics and nuclear fusion. It is jointly delivered by eight universities from five European countries: three French institutions (Aix-Marseille Université, Université de Lorraine, and CEA-INSTN), two Spanish universities (Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), Germany's Universität Stuttgart, Belgium's Ghent University, and the Czech Technical University in Prague. The programme is further supported by virtually all major European fusion research laboratories as associated partners.
Over the course of three days, a total of 22 second-year students from all participating universities defended their master's theses in Prague. First-year students also attended the event, giving them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the final defense process before taking part themselves next year. Each year, several students from CTU either study or are scheduled to study within the programme.
