Hi, my name is Karolína Jeřábková and I’m a second-year Bachelor’s student specialising in plasma and fusion. When I was at secondary school, I didn’t often pay attention in physics classes; I didn't find them particularly interesting. I was much more into PE, where we used to go to the gymnastics hall. After a chat with my teacher, I was allowed to practice gymnastics there, which is something I still do to this day. I also used to stay at school for hours after classes to play the piano with my friends. It was only in my penultimate year that I finally decided I wanted to study physics.
However, science has actually been a part of my life since I was a child—I used to find the popular science books my father read scattered all over the house. I started reading more about physics and found specific topics I wanted to explore. I began asking more questions and borrowing more books.
I enrolled at Jaderka, which was my first and only choice of university. I realized that what I had previously only read about, I can now try out myself and see how it really works.
I would recommend Jaderka to anyone who finds physics and mathematics fun—especially to any girls thinking about applying to this faculty. You meet incredibly smart people and quickly realise that it isn't just a place for "nerds." Not only are the lecturers supportive, but the senior students are always willing to help you with anything you need.
