Modern Trends and Advanced Applications in Reactor Physics: FNSPE Hosted Inspiring Lectures from KAIST

From 10 to 13 February 2026, the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (FNSPE) hosted the course Modern Trends and Applications in Reactor Physics, featuring four inspiring lectures by Prof. Yong-Hee Kim from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)

The programme offered insights into state-of-the-art computational methods, including the innovative iDTMC method for efficient Monte Carlo reactor analyses, the challenges of flexible operation of APR1400 reactors (load-following), and prospective applications of HALEU fuel — ranging from nuclear thermal propulsion to microreactors for providing energy to bases on the Moon and Mars.

More than 30 participants attended the course, both in person and online, contributing to lively discussions throughout the programme. We would like to thank Prof. Kim for his highly stimulating lectures and all participants for their active engagement and collegial atmosphere.

We look forward to further expert meetings and continued international collaboration.
