Jirka is a student at the Department of Solid State Engineering (DSSE) in the final year of his follow-up Master’s programme. He works at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where he is also working on his Master’s thesis in the field of topological materials. Before enrolling at Jaderka, I studied physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University. I didn’t find myself in the theoretical approach to physics, which is why I decided to transfer to the Department of Solid State Engineering with a specialization in condensed matter. I’d heard that Jaderka places greater emphasis on applied physics. Thanks to that, I enjoy lectures more than before and perform better in exams.
I appreciate that during my engineering studies I am able to work at the same time and make use of contacts from both the faculty and my research at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. I value that my studies allow me to apply my knowledge not only in science but also in supporting extracurricular activities, such as participating in the ICOTOM conference in France or in a structural colloquium.
In my free time, I compete in athletics — specifically middle- and long-distance running. In general, I would recommend sports as a way to mentally unwind from demanding studies.
