State Final Examinations and Bachelor’s/Master’s Theses

From the academic year 2023/2024, the faculty has switched to assigning final university theses (FUT) through KOS. Other assignment formats are no longer accepted. However, due to the current inability to sign these assignments through KOS, it will be necessary for some time (until VIC implements this feature) for the assignments, in their final stage of preparation, to be printed, signed by the relevant participants, scanned, and stored at the corresponding department.

Submission of final university theses takes place strictly in electronic form. Students can submit their thesis independently via KOS or through departmental SZZ administrators, who will upload the final thesis to KOS. The advantage of submission via administrators is the possibility for the administrator to check the formal requirements of the thesis.

Thesis reviews are uploaded to KOS by the SZZ administrator. There is no longer a requirement to provide paper versions of reviews with original signatures. A scanned PDF version of the review with the signature is sufficient.

A thesis review must include:

  • The title of the review, e.g., “Supervisor’s Review of the Master’s Thesis.”
  • The title of the thesis being reviewed.
  • The full name and any academic titles of the author of the thesis.
  • The final proposed evaluation, both in descriptive and letter form.
  • A detailed specification of the workplace of the reviewer.
  • The date on which the review was prepared.

A list of all state examination questions is available here. (The list of state examination questions will be continuously updated to reflect the progress of English-speaking students in their studies.)

What submission date of the final university thesis (FUT) is indicated on the SZZ protocols?

  • The submission date corresponds to the schedule of the given academic year and the respective SZZ session, not the date specified on the thesis assignment.
  • If a previously unsuccessful student is newly admitted to the faculty, their original FUT assignment becomes invalid, and a new assignment must be issued.
  • The validity of the FUT assignment is checked by the faculty study office on the first day after the deadline for SZZ registration has passed.
  • In justified cases, the thesis supervisor may propose a postponement of the FUT publication by 1, 2, or 3 years. The corresponding request, including justification for the postponement (and signed by the head of the department), must be submitted 30 days before the thesis submission date.

Can the version of the final university thesis (FUT) be changed in KOS after submission by the student?

  • Yes. This right belongs to the SZZ administrator of the respective department.
