Offer Description

The Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague is one of the leading scientific and educational institutions in the Czech Republic. It covers a wide scope of fields in Mathematics, Scientific Software, Physics, Chemistry, Material Sciences, or Nuclear Engineering. The Department of Software Engineering (DSE) conducts research and leads courses in areas related to scientific computing and data processing, data visualization, mathematical modeling and optimization, machine learning and artificial intelligence, etc. DSE provides courses for students in Bachelor’s, Master's, and also Doctoral programmes. DSE operates a 3D print lab in Děčín and collaborates with several academic institutions, companies, medical centers, and public administration institutions. Several members of the department participate in LHC experiments at CERN.

The Dean of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, invites applications for an academic position of assistant professor (Recognized Researcher R2 or Established Researcher R3) at the Department of Software Engineering based in Děčín, Czech Republic. The call is open to exceptional candidates from all areas of research in Computer Science, Informatics, or Applied Mathematics that include Software Engineering, Theoretical and Applied Informatics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Informatics, Mathematical Modeling, Mathematical Optimization, Software Optimization, Distributed, Parallel and Cluster Computing, Computational Geometry, Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, or Virtual Reality.

The candidate is expected to conduct scientific research, software development, other creative activities, and to participate in teaching courses in the aforementioned areas. Start date is subject to mutual agreement, with the preferred date being before the beginning of September 2025. A minimum salary of 50 000 CZK/Month (2 000 EUR/Month) is offered. The successful candidate is expected to apply for a grant (e.g., from the Czech Science Foundation) financing his/her further research.

Qualification requirements

  • University education with a Ph.D. in Computer Science / Informatics / Applied Mathematics,
  • Czech or Slovak language fluency and ability to teach courses in Czech or Slovak,
  • English language fluency,
  • research and teaching experience in one of the relevant fields,
  • stable publication activity in journals indexed in Web of Science or Scopus with a publication record corresponding to the length of experience,
  • ability to integrate project, research and teaching activities including undergraduate and graduate student supervision,
  • experience with international scientific collaboration.

Information on the selection of a suitable candidate

The selection procedure takes the form of an assessment of the submitted documents in the first round. In the second round, a personal interview will be held with the selected candidates. The selection panel is expected to meet with the shortlisted candidates in April or May 2025.
