Physics Education for Secondary Schools

About the programme

The Physics Education for Secondary Schools study programme prepares students for the meaningful and fulfilling profession of a secondary school teacher. Students learn not only how to convey physics knowledge professionally and clearly, but also how to motivate pupils and adapt teaching to their individual needs. Studies combine modern didactics, pedagogy, and psychology with an emphasis on practical skills – from practising experiments to direct teaching at a secondary school. The programme is part-time, allowing students to combine it with doctoral or other master’s study programmes.

Programme content

Students will attend core courses focused on:

  • physics didactics,
  • practicum in school experiments,
  • direct work experience in schools.

career prospects

Graduates of the programme are fully qualified to teach physics at secondary schools; they can, however, also find employment in primary schools or other educational institutions. Due to a long-standing shortage of physics teachers, qualified pedagogues in this field are in high demand. Graduates can also pursue careers in other areas where the ability to convey professional knowledge clearly and to work effectively with people is essential – for example, in science popularisation or educational projects.
