Fast photon detectors for quantum-assisted optical interferometry

Annotation

The project focuses on testing and characterizing single-photon detectors with picosecond timing resolution that are key for quantum-assisted optical interferometry. This includes novel quantum-assisted interferometric techniques based on fast spectrometers, sensors, and readouts with 10 ps scale resolution. The commissioning and validation of these instruments is expected to have a high impact on astrophysics and, more generally, on other fields of science, which require fast timing measurements. The project will involve proof-of-principle measurements in the laboratory of our group, CAPADS, followed by real astronomical observations at observatories using the developed instrumentation.
