Event-driven imaging with Timepix based camera: from characterization to applications

In this topic you work on turning a HEP-grade pixel ASIC into a single-photon stopwatch and imager within CAPADS group: develop a robust calibration and analysis pipeline for Timepix3 or Timepix4 cameras with event-driven readout, extracting per-pixel energy (ToT), ~nanosecond timing, and tens-of-microns spatial resolution. Apply it across different use cases - from velocity-map imaging using fast optical flashes to reconstruct 3-D ion momenta and identify species via time-of-flight; through optical readout concepts for rare-event detectors where simultaneous x-y-t discrimination resolves multi-photon tracks on a single plane; up to quantum imaging or even electron-beam diagnostics via Cherenkov/scintillator coupling that map beam profiles without placing electronics in the beam. You’ll run experiments with international academic and industrial partners and drive the data analysis that turns raw hit streams into publishable results.
