Quantum dots is a promising technology with very interesting properties like great time response and tuning of the wavelength emission, that can be used to produce fast plastic scintillators. We produce, in cooperation with the chemistry department, samples of plastic scintillators with quantum dots as primary scintillating component in a relatively large bulk (order of one centimeter). The goal of the project is to study the properties of these new materials with laser light, in beam lines at CERN, and cosmic muons to evaluate the feasibility for the use in high energy physics experiments and find new strategies for construction and light readout.
