Causality between 2 quantities can be retrieved using methods such as multi-scale Granger Causality or Transfer Entropy. Application to fusion plasmas is not common but several attempts were made at IPP Prague to define the sequence of events occurring in disruptions in the COMPASS tokamak with relative good success. The task proposed here is to make a parametric study on a known system (oscillator) to quantify the sensitivity of both methods against fluctuations, electric noise and different time windows encompassing the cause (force) and the effect (displacement), to implement surrogates for the TE method, to investigate the time shift between 2 signals (physically and mathematically) and the possible use of Empirical Mode Decomposition. Finally, validation of these findings will be performed on a concrete disruption case in COMPASS.
